Atghoria Government College was founded in 1972 following Bangladesh's independence, established to serve the educational needs of Atghoria Upazila residents in Pabna District. The college began operating as a government institution at Chandva village, located opposite to Atghoria Thana. During its early years, the institution focused on building foundational academic programs including Higher Secondary education and basic degree courses. The college gradually expanded its curriculum offerings, establishing the first Honours departments for Bangla, History, Political Science, and other humanities subjects. EIIN number 125300 was assigned when the institution became a recognized government college under the National University system.
